One of the best entry signs of any fish fry we have ever been too! A colorful, artistic fish on their sign warmly greets you as you drive down Meramec. Great sign! Menus and decorations in the parish hall are also well done and coordinated. You can tell someone put a lot of effort and attention to detail in the decorations and displays. The only downside to the wayfinding was that the parish hall is a little hard to find. The parish hall is actually across the street from the church and is part of a storefront along Meramec. Took us a little while to find it. Ordering was easy and straightforward. A smaller fish fry, so you get a lot of personal attention.
Food
Good food. Nothing really stood out or was spectacular, but everything was done well. No Cod, but other choices included fried jack salmon, fried catfish, baked tilapia, breaded pollack, and breaded shrimp. Sides included pasta, french fries, coleslaw, potato salad. And hushpuppies!
A small selection of craft brews were available including Shafly's and I think Red Stripe.
Value
Good value. $8 for adult dinners and $5 for kids. Dinners included tea, lemonade, and desserts. You could also get crab cakes for a $1. Beer was $2.
Atmosphere
Cozy and friendly atmosphere. Nice round tables with cushioned seats. As mentioned under wayfinding, some nice attention to detail in decorations and displays for the fish fry. This was definitely a low key, small fish fry, so you get a lot of personal attention. Someone came by our table to ask us how we were doing.
Overall
3 out of 4
It many ways St. Anthony of Padua is a hidden gem. If you are looking for a small, low key fish fry, give St. Anthony of Padua a try. The smallness of the fish fry lends itself to super friendly volunteers and great attention to detail. St. Anthony doesn't have a fish fry every week, so check their website for dates. Also, they have earlier times from 3:30 to 6:30pm.
