2010 was a strong year. A lot of great fish fries and unique locations. We went to one of the largest fish fries (Sacred Heart) to one of the smallest (St. Agatha). Sometimes it's hard to compare fish fries from different years - it's hard to remember that side of french fries from two years ago. So this recap breaks down the highlights of 2010. (Remember this is just for fish fries visited in 2010!)
Best Overall Fish Fry
St. Pius. This was our first trip back in several years after we had heard that maybe they weren't deserving of their top ranking. I still think everything was top notch. A little more crowded these days, but still deserving of their best ranking.
Best Cod
A lot of good fried cod this year. St. Pius, Sacred Heart, and Our Lady of Pillar all had strong cod. But the best of the year was St. Michael in Radom, Il. This small town in southen Illinois served up great cod. It was like going to a neighbor's fish fry. It ranked #5 in our all time list and could easily be up with the best.
Best Value
St. Agatha was the best value for 2010. For $21 we fed our family of 5 and we could barely carry our plates with all the sides. St. Michael was also a top value.
Best Atmosphere
St. Pius has that coffee house atmosphere and usually has live music. Best for 2010 and #3 overall ranking. Special mention goes to Sacred Heart - their 'private dining' area is a highlight and a chance to enjoy a fish fry in a more relaxed setting.
Other Highlights
You should check out the Washington University Catholic Student Center fish fry. These future leaders are a big supporters of fish fries with their 'Cod Squad'. They also host their own fish fry. They only have it once a year, so you need to check out their website and put it on your calendar early.
St. Agatha also needs your support. This unique polish fish fry is a hidden gem in the shadow of Pestalozzi Street. When we went, the crowd was sparse, but the food was great.
Here was our 2010 schedule. See you in 2011!

Year End Reviews
Sometimes it is hard to compare fish fries from year to year. Comparing that Cod from 2014 to 2008 can be a little tough. With that in mind, below is a yearly re-cap for each of the following years. We got a little busy in 2015, then 2017-2019 went by in a blur, so we are missing a few years, so sorry!

Fan Poll Winners - Best Fish Fry
Every year Friday Night Fish hosts a fan poll to crown a yearly fan favorite Fish Fry. It's a two step process with Round 1 selecting five finalists, and Round 2 voting from the final five to crown the yearly fan champion. So get ready every year for the annual poll and get your supporters voting for your favorite fish fry! We had some voting "irregularities" in 2014, so we discontinued the poll (for now).
